Jeff Smith gets his Essex badge

Jeff Smith was recently awarded his Essex badge which for anyone that has seen Jeff play or played against him, won’t come as a surprise.  The only surprise probably is why he hasn’t received it sooner.    I’m sure the club would like to congratulate Jeff on reaching this milestone, well done Jeff!  At 19:27 on 16th April 2017 our bowling green was once again the target of vandals, this time not young as you can see from the photos below.    They were at our bowling green from 19:27 till 19:36 roughly and amused themselves by using lumps of paving slab as shotput practice, lobbing the concrete…

We were hit again by two vandals on Saturday 11th November 2017, this time they wrecked our scoreboard between the two greens.   We do have photos this time of them doing it, they also threw a lot of slate chippings onto the green which could have wrecked the blades on our green mower had they…

Goodbye Ernie

Yesterday we got on a coach for an outing but rather than our usual bowling day away, this was a sadder outing to say goodbye to our dear friend Ernie Merritt who passed away recently.    We stopped en-route at a very nice garden centre for a while to have something to eat and a…

New season has started!

The new 2017 season has started.   We had a good turnout for the opening drive on Saturday 29th April and the weather was dry if a little chilly when the sun went in.  At the moment the green is still cut at 6mm and a little heavy and straight but we will lower the…

Mower christened

Our new Protea mower was offically christened today.    The grass was getting to be a little long and needed cutting to avoid the chance of turf disease occurring.   General feeling was that the mower is easy to use and we were very satisfied with the cut and finish.  People there today were Brian,…
